Services we can match you with

Tree removal

Removing a dead, leaning, diseased or unwanted tree. HomeGuide puts the national average at about $850, with most jobs between $400 and $1,200. Height, trunk diameter, access and how close the tree is to your house or power lines drive the price.

Emergency & storm removal

A tree or big limb on your roof, car, fence or driveway after a storm. Same-day or next-day removal often costs 2 to 3 times the standard rate. If a power line is involved, stay well away and call 911 and your electric utility first.

Tree trimming & pruning

Clearing limbs off the roof, thinning a canopy or taking out dead wood before hurricane season. HomeGuide lists $400 to $900 per tree on average (about $650), and big oaks and pines over 60 feet often cost $1,000 or more.

Stump grinding

Grinding the stump below ground after a removal. HomeGuide lists $120 to $400 for the first stump and $30 to $60 for each extra one, or about $2 to $6 per inch of diameter. Many removal quotes do not include the stump, so ask.

Before you cut: Tallahassee and Leon County tree rules

Inside city limits: on single-family detached lots, the City of Tallahassee protects trees over 36 inches in diameter at breast height (about 4.5 ft up), plus state-recognized patriarch trees and trees in wetlands. Removing a tree within 100 feet of a canopy road centerline needs a call to a City environmental inspector first. (City FAQ, City tree removal application)

Unincorporated Leon County: the County says it depends on the site, including canopy road zones, wetlands, floodplains, slopes and zoning. Its Environmental Service Advisor answers this by phone at (850) 606-1300. (Leon County FAQ)

Hazard trees: under Florida Statute 163.045, if you own a single-family detached home and an ISA-certified arborist or Florida-licensed landscape architect documents that the tree poses an unacceptable risk, a local government can't require a permit, fee or replanting. (Fla. Stat. 163.045)

How much does tree removal cost?

HomeGuide puts the national average at about $850, with most removals between $400 and $1,200. Small, easy trees can be around $200; large or complex removals can reach $3,000 or more. Same-day or next-day emergency work often costs 2 to 3 times the standard rate. Only an on-site quote can tell you your real price.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Tallahassee?

It depends on the tree and where you live. Inside city limits, the City of Tallahassee protects trees over 36 inches in diameter at breast height on single-family detached lots, plus patriarch and wetland trees, and trees near canopy roads need extra review. In unincorporated Leon County the answer is site-specific; the County Environmental Service Advisor can tell you at (850) 606-1300. Florida law (s. 163.045) also lets owners of single-family homes remove a tree without a local permit if an ISA-certified arborist or Florida-licensed landscape architect documents that it poses an unacceptable risk.

Does homeowners insurance pay for tree removal?

Usually only when a tree falls on and damages a covered structure, and coverage is often limited to roughly $500 to $1,000 per tree according to HomeGuide. Preventive removal of a healthy or merely risky tree is normally the owner’s cost. Check your own policy and talk to your insurer.

Are you a tree company?

No. We are a matching service. We do not cut trees, we do not have crews, and we do not hold contractor licenses. Always confirm insurance and credentials directly with the pro before work starts.
